Golden Gate Point Real Estate Market

Golden Gate Point is a scenic 22-acre peninsula surrounded by the Sarasota Bay. This historic community is home to some of the most highly sought after and luxurious condominiums you’ll find in Sarasota, with truly impressive waterfront views. Golden Gate Point also features an ideal location next to St. Armands Circle, Lido and Longboat Key and downtown Sarasota. Because of its unrivaled convenient location and the numerous upscale homes available on this small peninsula, home values and demand have both been rising in the Golden Gate Point real estate market.

Golden Gate Point, Sarasota history

In 1910, the area was first purchased by former Chicagoan Owen Burns, and at that time it was known as Cedar Point. It was only a narrow strip of land prior to Burns starting a seawall and dredging project to expand the strip into a larger peninsula. Burns planted 200 coconut palms along the streets of Cedar Point, and residents of Sarasota would often park their cars there to enjoy the incredible sunset views.

The collapse of the 1920s Florida land boom caused momentary setbacks, however development started back up again in the 40s and slowly gained momentum each decade thereafter. In the early 90s, the area started to boom after drawing the attention of international developers, and many new multi-family buildings were updated or built. Construction ramped up again in the 2000s as demand continued to grow and several additional luxurious condominium complexes were built or restored.

Golden Gate Point is now a highly sought after location in Sarasota

As it stands today, the Golden Gate Point real estate market remains on an upswing due to recent rising Sarasota home demand and its amazing location, nearby attractions and breathtaking water views. Just about every residence on the peninsula has an unobstructed view of the water since building heights are strictly limited by the city.

Numerous community events are held right next door at Marina Jack including very popular New Year’s and 4th of July events. Boat or yacht owners who live at Golden Gate Point also have unrivaled access to the marina and can walk right to it.

Bayfront Park is also close by– one of the Sarasota area’s most scenic parks with excellent facilities, several walking trails and bay views. St Armands Key is right across the Ringling Causeway — one of Florida’s top upscale shopping destinations with over 140 stores, local and national boutiques, and restaurants. Lido, Longboat and Siesta Key are minutes away and offer a range of extraordinary world famous white sand beaches for relaxation and rejuvenation.

All of the restaurants, nightlife, employment opportunities, cultural events and shops of downtown Sarasota are right at your doorstep as well. Both the public and private school systems are rated among the best in the state, with multiple institutions of higher education in the area.
