Broker Tour and The Bear

So we were fortunate enough to get to spend some time in Steamboat Springs, Colorado last week. Whenever we are there I check in with Cam Boyd who is the co-owner of Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty. He had some extra tickets to a great concert so it was fun to connect with him again.

Anyway, Toni and I decided one day to hike up the mountain. We took a trail that happens to be one of the most scenic ski runs. I enjoy it because it is like a valley and on one side you get to see some of the most amazing ski-in ski-out properties in Steamboat. These are enormous homes with incredible views of the mountain and quick access to the slopes. Among them sits one of the top rated rental homes in North America as rated by CNBC and Reuters. Here is the website: steamboatluxe.com in case you are curious.

We made our way up to the mountain enjoying all the amazing homes along the way. The path got narrow and became more challenging but ultimately, we made it to a plateau with a ski lift. This is where you would go if you lived right there on the mountain to access the slopes – no need to mingle with the masses at the bottom.

Being the realtor, instead of hiking back down the mountain I wanted to walk down on the road so we could see all the beautiful homes and how they look from the front. Lucky enough it was broker open day in Steamboat so we even got to tour a couple of homes. The last one we toured could have been the home of Hansel and Gretel. We get to see many homes in Sarasota that have been untouched for decades but I am sure this home was not touched since it was built in the 70’s. A true mountain home.

After ending up on a few dead end streets we decided to make our way down the main road to the base of the mountain. Here we are on the main road – certainly not busy but a thoroughfare – and what comes up from one side of the road but a large brown BEAR. We stopped, he stopped, we looked at him, he looked at us then we started backing up. Luckily a car was not far from us and when the bear heard the noise he scampered across the road.

It was certainly an interesting experience. My first time and hopefully only broker tour with a bear.
